Measuring HTTP Communication with Curl 1 curl is a sweet little “command line tool and library for transferring data with URLs”.
I mostly use curl for a quick test of http/https services. Occasionally I use it also for smtp or ldap services.
But curl can do a lot more for you. It supports more than 20 differnt protocols and so it is not surprising that every now and then I discover a new feature.

Hugo Extended on Centos 7

There is no release build of Hugo extended for CentOS 7 1 2 3 After quite some years of not updating my personal website I decided to lower the barrier for publishing new posts to my Uberspace Host. Maybe this will help me with updating the website more often.
I wanted to have my website versioned on GitHub and deployed everytime I commit a new post to the repo. Setting up repo on GitHub was easy and bringing the deployment in place required to have Hugo installed on my Uberspace Host.

Using Bosh with PCFDev

What? The installation of PCFDev on my local notebook was initiated by a single command. After the command completed I had a minimal footprint Cloud Foundry deployment on my local machine. But how did this happen?
Why? BOSH is the software which is used for deployment and lifecycle management of Cloud Foundry. So it does not hurt to learn a little bit about it. And because we have PCFDev installed we also have the opportunity to experiment with bosh in a local environment.

PCFDev Virtual Machine SSH Login

What? If you start PCFDev on your local machine then a single virtual machine is running on top of host os and provides a subset of the cloud foundry components. For normal use cases it is sufficient to use the web interface and the cf command line for a developer.
But if want to gain a deeper understanding of cloud foundry then it could be useful to take a look behind the curtains and in to the vm.

Enable 2 Factor Authentication in Cloud Foundry

What? Cloud Foundry comes with a feature rich multi tenant identity management service called UAA (User Account and Authentication). If you have already used Cloud Foundry this is the service where you log in to your foundation. Just in case you did not know the Cloud Foundry UAA is also OpenID Certified.
Why? Authenticating users in Cloud Foundry with username/password credentials is pretty standard. But the UAA service is also capable of providing multi factor authentication.

Installing PCFDev on Manjaro Linux

What? This blog post is about installing a local Cloud Foundry testing environment on your linux notebook. For some time there was only PCF 1.11 available via PCFDev for Linux. Newer versions of Cloud Foundry could only be used on MacOs and Windows via PCFDev.
But since April 2019 Pivotal Cloud Foundry Application Services Version 2.4.4 can be deployed on Linux via PCFDev.
Why? With PCFDev you can install a fully functional Cloud Foundry deployment on your local notebook.

Why? Every year right before christmas my wife and I faced the same question: “Which gifts should we make to our parents, grandparents and friends?”. Since we have kids there is a lot more to do before christmas and a lot less time to prepare gifts. So we simplified things. Every member of our family and our best friends get the same gift. It is a handmade calendar with twelve photos of our family…well mostly photos of our kids, because they are the interesting part here.
